B i o g r a p h y

Jim Millar is a conductor, pianist, organist and music educator. He is the founder and artistic director of Summer Music in Tuscany, a program in Sarteano, Tuscany, for instrumentalists and vocalists looking to revitalize their skills.  He has been the Director of Choirs and Orchestras at Tenafly High School, Tenafly, NJ for 17 years.
 
Mr. Millar is an active performer with the Bergen Chamber Artists, and is a frequent accompanist with artists from Broadway to the Metropolitan Opera. He serves on the advisory board for the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society’s Young Musicians program. He has served as the conductor of the North Jersey Region Treble Youth Choir, the Central Jersey Region High School Orchestra, the North Jersey Region Intermediate Orchestra, and the New Jersey All State Honors Chamber Orchestra. For the past three years, he has served as rehearsal conductor for the New Jersey All State High School Orchestra. In 2013 he served on the faculty of Sessione Senese per la Musica e l'Arte in Siena, Italy.
 
He earned Bachelor of Music (piano) and Master of Music (orchestral conducting) degrees from Northwestern University, and continued his studies at the Aspen Summer Music School, with Jorge Mester, and the Goldovsky Opera Institute, with Boris Goldovsky. He was the music director of the Jersey Lyric Opera for two seasons, preparing and conducting productions of La Bohème and Un Ballo in Maschera.
